There has been a bit of crazy backlash from critics for the new Ghostbusters with the all-female cast. If you are wondering what were the makers thinking, this will give you the answers. I recently sat in on this interview with Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon, Paul Feig, Katie Dippold, and Ivan Reitman. Kristen Wiig was out sick, so she was unable to join, but this group didn’t disappoint.

Women of Ghostbusters
I have a review going up on Friday of the movie, but I will say that if you are worried about these women bringing it to the film, that there is no need for worry. The four of them are funny, and as mentioned in the embedded Facebook video when the panel was asked to describe the film in one word, the response was, “Exciting, fun, hopeful, friendship, bad-ass, and joyful.”
So when asked about the haters, Leslie said it best, “Go see the movie! Go get yourself some Twizzlers and some popcorn. Go enjoy yourself.”
As far as improvising, Paul let the ladies go for it, “I just try to stay out of their way. We put the script together, but that is the fun we have by having the ladies just go for it.” He continued, “We don’t go bananas and throw away the script, but at the same time they are such a master of making it on their own.”
And let’s remember the man that was part of the original.
The director of the original Ghostbusters Ivan Reitman talked about how easy it was to get Bill Murray on board to do a cameo. “He is such a fan of these four women; he wants it to be known publicly that he is such a supporter of the work they were going to do.”
We talked about if they were a ghost, which they would haunt. We spoke about women empowerment, and Melissa talked about being a parent. The full interview is hilarious and will make it easy to see how the women are great friends. It was especially clear when they shared how sad it was when they were on the set for the last day of shooting. “The day that we wrapped, we cried the entire day. We had grown so close,” Kate shared. “I said, ‘I’m not going to cry’, and I had snot coming out!” added Leslie.
The friendship is real. The laughs are hard. Such a fun interview!
