I am not sure when my love of wine began, but I can say that it’s one of those loves that has stood the test of times. Winc recently asked me if I’d like to give their wine a try, and I mean, who would want to pass that up right? But little did I know that as I found out more about their story with the thought in mind that at the end of the day, it’s just about enhancing a moment, I would find a new improved love.
Winc Wine Delivery
Winc represents a para-dime shift in the wine experience. They have created a structure that allows them to create a greater number of distinct and interesting wines and deliver a great value to a broad audience.
Winc’s story began in 2012 when we founded Club W: the world’s first personalized wine club. We made the process of discovering and buying wine easier than ever — and as we expanded to other facets of the experience, we became so much more than a club.
They find and make great wines; then they sell them directly to consumers. This allows them to provide more excellent value and diversity, to tell better stories of their wines, and most importantly to Winc, to receive feedback that they react on.
Their unique approach of talking to consumers to see what they are looking for in a glass of wine, what can make their experience better, this may be the very thing that makes Winc my new favorite online wine shop.
Starting at just $13/bottle, Winc takes the guesswork out of the what you may like by taking your wine profile into account. When you sign up with Winc, you are asked a slew of questions to help them understand your likes and then offers suggestions. With Winc there are no fees or no commitments. Just some really great wines at a reasonable price that can conveniently be delivered. All while keeping what you like in mind.
So what did I try?
Folly of the Beast
This bright, round-tannined red represents the impossible: an excellent Pinot Noir at an affordable price.
This red takes its name from the great Moby Dick quote “For there is no folly of the beast of the earth that is not infinitely outdone by the madness of men.” It’s our mission — our madness, if you will — to consistently deliver great Pinot at an affordable price. To create this white whale of the wine world, we went to California’s central coast – where the foggy mornings and cool evenings have a favorable effect on the heartbreaker grape. A certain amount of skill and tenacity is essential to produce a Pinot of this stature – and Folly of the Beast is proof that a little madness pays off. Aged in new and neutral French oak to enhance notes of sweet spice, this full-bodied Pinot pairs nicely with pork, poultry, and cheeses.
Big Beat
Flavors of raspberry, rose petals and a hint of cola will have you drinking this full-bodied red blend on repeat.
Big Beat is a full-bodied red that begs you to pump up the volume and get down ’til dawn. This unconventional blend of Petit Verdot and Syrah is fruit-forward and slightly jammy with a loud palate and amplified flavor. Notes of raspberry and rose petals are balanced with pepper and a hint of cola. It’s an extremely easy-drinking red – to be enjoyed on its own with your favorite playlist cranking, or with equally undeniable foods like burgers, pizza, french fries or grilled cheese. Go to winc.com/bigbeat and get the party started!
Chop Shop
Your go-to meat wine. Chop Shop is a juicy, complex, full-bodied Cabernet that pairs with burgers and prime cuts alike.
For the new vintage of this crowd-pleasing Cab, we harvested the grapes at night to make sure they were as cold as possible upon reaching the winery, then fermented the juice in stainless steel and aged the wine in French oak to give the final product structure and subtle undertones of pepper and earth. Complex flavors of black cherry, leather, and tobacco are balanced by hints of cocoa and violet. Pop a bottle of this full-bodied Chop Shop anytime you’re in the mood for a delicious, reliable red, and pair it with any meat dish – or drink it solo.
Meraki
Deep flavors of dark fruit and spice give this sustainably-made Lodi wine a structured complexity.
Meraki (may-RAH-kee) translates to “the soul, creativity, or love put into something” or “the essence of yourself infused in your endeavors”. It’s a true testament to the tender love and care we put into this 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon. Made with grapes from the sustainable Vista del Sol Vineyard in Lodi (and certified green under the Lodi Rules) it joins deep flavors of black currant, blackberry, vanilla and sweet oak spice with a full body. Drink it with your favorite pasta dishes, pair it with pizza or spread the love and bring it along to your next BBQ.
Rosa Obscura
This crowd-pleasing red blend has juicy berry flavors and a pleasurably rich, full body.
Lush with jammy California goodness, full body, and an ultra smooth texture, this 2015 blend is what we call a Big Red. Zinfandel is blended with a mix of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah for juicy notes of cherry, strawberry, cassis, dark cocoa and violet. Drink this versatile red with your steak dinner, chocolate cake, or as a delicious dessert all on its own.
Try it for yourself!
Give Winc a try and get $20 off your first order. If you love reds, both the Folly of the Beast and Big Beat are great for an end of the day glass of wine. What I love about the wines I tried is that they are equally as great to bring to a party as they are to drink alone.
