Vanessa Marshall Talks Star Wars Rebels

I have met a celebrity or two doing what I do.  Each one that I’ve had the opportunity to interview, mingle with or, in this case, hang with; not one has left me without taking something from our meeting.  This is the case with the beautiful, inside and out, Vanessa Marshall.

Before meeting Vanessa Marshall, I tweeted a few times about how excited I was about the opportunity to hang with her at a May the Fourth Star Wars Rebels Event that was held on Star Wars Day.  It doesn’t happen often, but occasionally a celeb will tweet back.  Vanessa, being the real person that she is, not only re-tweeted me, she also interacted with me mentioning bacon.  Ok, so she could have taken 2 seconds to read that in my little Twitter bio right?  Well, she also liked my blog Facebook page.  Hmm…ok, that’s great, she must have an awesome assistant right?

Well, when we walked into the Lowes Hollywood restaurant she was there, and as I went to introduce myself, she hugged me like an old friend and said, “I know who you are”.  I was taken aback by a very pleasant surprise.  One that left an impression on me, for she didn’t just make me feel special, but everyone of the 25 bloggers that attended this special event.  She read our blogs, followed us on our social media platforms and made sure she made each one of us feel special.

Vanessa, the voice of Hera in the new Star Wars Rebels animated show coming out in the fall of this year, shared with us how she is a total Star Wars geek.  She feels a connection to the series so being part of the beginning of it all is so very special to her.  So special in fact that she admitted to getting overwhelmed with emotions often on her way home from working on the series.  She said that sometimes she found herself crying as she drove home from a day of recording, thinking this is such an incredible opportunity for her, saying it’s a dream come true.

Working with fellow Star Wars Rebel voices Freddie Prinze Jr., Taylor Gray and Tiya Sircar in a setting that is a bit unusual, they all connect.  By unusual I mean most shows where a voice actor is used is usually done with the actor in a booth alone.  Instead, the group was actually all together in one room, playing off one another.  A setting that Vanessa loves, for they have become like family and really love working together.

When asked about how she feels about the casting of the new Star Wars, she shares that like us, she is a fan first.  She is excited as she finds out information when we do.  Just because she is working on Star Wars Rebels doesn’t give her special privileges of any extra insider information.  She says that she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Getting emotional again, she said she admired all of us for making a difference and that she has even considered having a blog of her own.  I really hope she explores that even deeper.  She has a voice that should be heard.  She’s an incredible woman.  One I am very fortunate to have met and connected with.
