Last time I chatted with James Tierney was about 8 months ago when he published his first book The Keeper of the Sword: The Legend of Zierns. With the release of his second book in the from the magical Land of Ack, we caught up with James to discuss what readers can expect from The Coming of Zierns as well as what’s next for the series.
The Coming of Zierns
James B. Tierney has created captivating characters in his new book The Coming of Zierns. Go on a quest with them in the magical Land of Ack in this, his second book in the series, The Legend of Zierns. Fight the evil Wombats alongside Brudie, Brendan, and Nivek. Dust off Wombats with Willow the Blue and ride an armored ferret named Shawn. The story’s main character, James, “The Zierns”, falls into a situation where he and Master Wing must go on a quest which his Grandfather promised to fulfill years before. And there the story begins. It is the second installment of many others in the magical Land of Ack. A treasured family book full of adventures children are sure to love
You’ve had a busy year. Can you share a little about your experience with the release of your first book last year?
The first book release was a learning experience. I traveled to different Libraries in Florida to meet the children and parents who bought the book. All of the parents and kids were very happy to have a book that wasn’t just for preschool or high school themed book. I never realized Mid aged children do not have that many choices of literature.
Tell us a little about your new book, The Coming of Zierns. What can the readers expect to find in the magical Land of Ack?
It picks up where the “Keeper of the Sword” left off. We have some new characters since some time has passed. We have another Fairy that assists Zierns in his quest. The land of Ack isn’t the same as the Keeper of the Sword described it to his grandson James.
Does the new book stands on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?
It helps if you have read the first book. The series is flowing from one book to the next. I have almost finished the third book and have outlines for the fourth book. I know if the reader loved the first two books, the third will be a surprise.
What do you find the delicate part of your artistic process?
I think it is keeping the timelines in check. As the series grows, the books will go back and forth from the past to the present time periods.
What are you hoping your young audience take away from the new book?
I really want to have children that have ADHD to learn to love reading. By keeping the action moving the children get drawn into the story. This was my main priority. I had attention issues as a child and had no books that keeping my interest. So, I want to give back to the kids that may be dealing with this as I had.
I also want to keep having a female hero in all the stories. The Heroes are really nothing without the group being in sync with each other. I wish to show how teamwork is essential in life.
What’s up next for you?
I have some signings around Florida and some book shows. I am in the process to complete the third book for the readers. I’d love to get the books into the school systems for ADHD readers.
I would love to get the books into the school systems for ADHD readers.
I have had adults purchase the books and enjoyed them. This makes me feel good about my writing.
My publishing company Taylor and Seale are starting to push my books in other countries, Canada, Ireland, England New Zealand and Australia.
If this goes well, I will plan on a signing tour of these countries.
James is currently doing a book tour throughout the Central Florida area.
