I love a good musical. And though I am over 20 years past my high school years, I admit, I can be a sucker for a good high school movie. I mean, when the girls watched High School Musical over and over again I didn’t complain. So with the success of first Teen Beach Movie released back in 2013, it was easy to see a Teen Beach 2 to follow. Friday, June 26th, everyone will finally have their chance to see what happened to Brady, Mac, Lela, Tanner and friends.
The whole cast is back and dare I say better than before, with new songs, awesome dance moves, and well, just good ole fun. But even more importantly as you will see in the interview coming next week with Chirssie Fit (CheeChee) and Jordan Fisher (Seacat), Teen Beach 2 comes with several really great messages about friendship and girl empowerment. See for yourself why this sequel will be one you buy and not mind hearing over and over again.
Teen Beach 2 Offers Great Message for Kids
The movie has some great messages. One is about believing in yourself in both the male and female point of view. By showing how insecure Brady is about making super cool, one-of-a-kind surfboards. He keeps this a secret from Mack for he worries she won’t really “get it”. Mack seems to be extremely focused on college and Brady feels that she will think what he is doing isn’t cool.
On the female side of believing in yourself, it’s refreshing to see the strong friendship Mack and Lela have. With the impact that Mack makes on Lela, she teaches her that she doesn’t have to be someone that she isn’t out to make others happy, she can be anyone she wants to as long as she is true to herself. In that there is also a message that I love of female empowerment. Mack and Lela are both strong female characters that are driven and supportive of one another. This is something that is so important that young viewers will get to see.
Lela was stuck in a 60’s movie when things for women weren’t quite the same so when Lela visits the modern world, she quickly realizes that things are very different in 2015, especially being able to be in control of her own choices. This shows how women not only have come a long way, but that they can truly make their own choices that can impact the path they take in life. Powerful message that is easy to get, but in a way that kids probably won’t even notice that is what they are learning. A message equally as important to young men. Also, showing the very driven Mack being focused on her love for oceanography and planning her future with college on the horizon.
Teen Beach 2 also shares the message of following your destiny. With Lela wanting nothing more than to stay in the modern world, she eventually realizes she needs to return to “Wet Side Story.” As the story unfolds, she creates her own destiny and shows that it is possible to become the strong, independent woman that she had always aspired to be.
With the whole gang back and the support they show each other, the importance of friendship takes a front seat. With Brady being insecure with his secret surfboard making, Tanner really steps up and helps Brady share his surfboard making passion with Mack. Just as the support Mack and Lela show each other. Even with Lela’s outta place antics. And then all the characters from “Wet Side Story” risk fixing everything, including their existence, to help Mack and Brady get their relationship back on track.
Being the sucker I am for movies like this, the music and dance numbers are fantastic. I know that after screening the movie, my teens will love it so it can be enjoyed by kids of all ages and their parents. Families can enjoy learning the dance numbers and singing along together.
