The first time I used Uber I was leaving a meeting in Amsterdam and I asked the best way to hire a car. They shrugged and said just to use Uber, and that day I found my favorite way to get around while traveling.
What is Uber?
Uber is a smartphone application that makes getting around as easy as a tap of a button. It’s a convenient and inexpensive car service. It’s kinda like a taxi, but through the app, you hire a private driver to take you to your destination. You don’t have to wait on a street corner waving a car down; it comes to you.
You log into your account, put your pickup and drop off information, and you will not only see the ETA, but there is a live map showing the driver’s location. Typically they arrive within minutes, but of course, this depends on location.
Since my time in Amsterdam, I have used Uber countless times. I’ve learned during those times that they aren’t just great while traveling, but there are so many other ways to utilize this service.
Taking Advantage of Uber
As I mentioned above, Uber is great while traveling. And since you can use them worldwide, you don’t need to worry about a miscommunication with the driver of where you are going. You put in the address then your driver takes you there. It makes traveling a bit easier.
There are those nights whether you are in college or enjoying an adult night out if there is alcohol involved, we don’t need to be driving. The cost of Uber is usually much less expensive than a cab, and it certainly will guarantee that there’s no chance of getting a DUI.
Sometimes you’ve got to shop. And parking on weekends and around the holidays is a nightmare. Whether it’s the mall or that unique downtown store, Uber can pick you up where you are and take you where you need to go. I know this year’s holiday shopping was less stressful because I didn’t have to deal with parking rage. It’s real folks, and Uber keeps me away from all that parking drama.
Airport drop off is something else I utilize Uber for often. I travel so much that I try to save on parking by either having a friend drop me off and pick me up. Let’s face it, I have some great friends, but I am too good of a friend to ask them to take me to the airport at 4 am. So Uber is ideal for this purpose. And if you have time, you can save by using Uber’s carpooling option where the driver will pick up a few other riders heading to the airport. They won’t go out of the way for this, but it saves you money by splitting the fare.
Living close to Orlando, we go to a lot of concerts and sporting events. Parking is not only expensive, but it’s also a mess when it’s time to leave. This is when Uber really pays off. Typically it’s about the same cost of parking, and having a few drinks is never an issue!
