When I started blogging I will admit, I was gently forced into a world that I hoped for some amazing opportunities, but never imagined that I would have the chance to do even half the stuff I do. Growing up in the 80’s I was in that era of all cool things Star Wars, so I may have had a crush on Luke Skywalker, but I was never a big Star Wars fan. Not the kind that would deserve an opportunity like I have just been given. So for those really big, die hard Star Wars fans, please don’t hate me, and hopefully I will be bringing you all you would want to know in my posts from the upcoming press trip I am about to embark on.
Sky Walker Ranch: Strange Magic, Inside Out and Lava
In less than a week I am heading back to California, but this time to one of my favorite cities, San Francisco, where I will be screening the new Lucasfilm and Touchstone Pictures film Strange Magic up at Skywalker Ranch! While I am there, I will receive a tour of the grounds and interview Director and 7 time Academy Award winner Gary Rydstrom! Also while at Skywalker Ranch, I will interview Elijah Kelley (“Hairspray,” “Red Tails,” “Lee Daniels’ The Butler”) who voices Sunny in the soon to be released film!
“Strange Magic,” a new animated film from Lucasfilm Ltd., is a madcap fairy tale musical inspired by “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Popular songs from the past six decades help tell the tale of a colorful cast of goblins, elves, fairies and imps, and their hilarious misadventures sparked by the battle over a powerful potion. Lucasfilm Animation Singapore and Industrial Light & Magic bring to life the fanciful forest turned upside down with world-class animation and visual effects. Directed by Gary Rydstrom (“Toy Story Toons: Hawaiian Vacation,” “Lifted”) from a story by George Lucas, “Strange Magic” will be released by Touchstone Pictures on Jan. 23, 2015.
I will also attend a reception at Pixar for an INSIDE OUT presentation (opening in theatres on 6/19) and a screening of the short film LAVA!
Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.
The short is a musical love story that takes place over millions of years.[3] It is set to a song written by Murphy,[4] and was inspired by the “isolated beauty of tropical islands and the explosive allure of ocean volcanoes.”[5]
This will all start on Monday, January 12th, so watch for photos and posts on all my social media platforms!
