Having been invited to ABC and ABC Family set visits before, I am familiar with the excitement that comes with seeing the process of making a show and chatting with the actors. There is just something a little different about meeting some of the stars that you grew up watching. This set visit was for the ABC Family show Melissa & Joey, so that meant we’d be meeting Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence. Both are actors I grew up watching, so that made the day all the more fun.
If you are new to Melissa & Joey, this sums it up for you:
Melissa & Joey is a half-hour comedy that follows Mel, the grown-up former wild child of a political family, who is now a local politician herself. When her sister ends up in prison and her brother-in-law flees after a scandal hits, Mel must take responsibility for her teenaged niece, Lennox, and nephew, Ryder. Help comes in the unlikely form of Joe, who moves in and becomes the family’s manny.
The show is funny, a little on the PG-13 side, and being on the set and seeing how it’s done is just fun!
To give you a little visual, I took some video for you to get an idea what it is like on the set.
As you can see, the lighting is amazing. I loved hanging on the porch and made myself welcome coming in the front door. It is always fun to see all the details that go onto making the set look like it’s real. Mail, post-it notes, even the fridge is full. The cast and crew were all very generous in their time giving us not only time to play around on the set but to take some photos with Melissa and Joey.
They both took time to talk about their kids, the show and balancing it all, and that I will share with you in a post next week.
Melissa and Joey airs on ABC Family and the winter premiere happens on Wednesday Jan 14 8/7c!
