Halloween Carving and Pumpkin Seed Roasting
I love this time of year! Fall in Florida is dreamy with a crispness in the air. It’s the reason we live in Florida weather. One of our Fall traditions with the girls is pumpkin carving and pumpkin seed roasting. The girls are older now, so besides cutting the hole in the top, they pretty much did everything on their own this year.
While they were carving, I decided to do the pumpkin seed roasting. I did two trays. First I tossed all the seeds together in olive oil and sea salt. Then I took half the seeds and spread them on a cookie sheet covered in olive oil. Then I took the other half and added some garlic salt and cayenne pepper. Then I spread them in a single layer on the other olive oil coated cookie sheet. I popped them in the oven on 400 for 15 minutes and well, they were WELL done. They smelled horrible. But after letting them cool outside, I brought them in and Gabi and I tried them anyway. And even though most of them were overcooked, they tasted pretty good. I like the cayenne/garlic salt seasoning. So it wasn’t a total fail.
The pumpkins turned into cute Jack-o-Lanterns and the girls had fun! So the tradition continues….What you do you do for Halloween? Do you carve pumpkins? Roast pumpkins seeds?
