I love Gatlinburg. The whole southern hospitality is so charming, and then the gorgeous backdrop of the mountains with the river cutting through, it’s just breathtaking. One of the things I love about downtown Gatlinburg is the fun country atmosphere and a favorite family restaurant, Dick’s Last Resort (DLR).
Who is Dick?
Dick is the ornery, politically incorrect curmudgeon who started this whole thing. Dick’s Last Resort is known for its outrageous, surly, and energetic servers who dish out good grub, cold booze, and heaping helpings of sarcasm. From rug-rats to old farts, from high-class to no-class, from the top of the food chain to the bottom of the barrel, Dick’s is fun for all and all in fun for those who dare to enter. The servers are always entertaining, but if yer unlucky enough, you may even catch a little live music. There’s never a dull moment in this 3-ring circus which is exactly how Dick’s earned its infamous reputation!
Warning: You’ll have a good time whether you want to or not.
I have been to Dick’s Last Resort three times now. Once with my family. Once with a friend. And most recently with blogging friends that were invited to do a review. I love this for it’s not just a review opinion about this fun place to eat because we were treated like VIP. It’s a review from all 3 experiences, starting with the first, when my family went to DLR back in 2010.
One of the first things that you will notice at Dicks is everyone is wearing some funny hats! Once your waiter comes to your table and gets your drink orders and chats with the family for a few, they make these ridiculously funny hats and write funny sayings on them. Yes. Gabi’s says “Champion Bra Stuffer!” I can’t read what mine says.
Donnie’s says , “Now accepting hair donations”, and Madi’s, “I practice kissing with my Beiber poster”. This was the start of a fun meal! One that still is brought up by the kids.
Dick’s Last Resort Gatlinburg
Now, having fun is always a great thing while at dinner on vacation. But let’s face it, it’s still all about the food. It’s a really great thing the the food at DLR is not only good, but they take pride in having a menu of fresh cooked to order food and drinks that make you have college days flashbacks.
As you will notice on the menu, they use words like “dinna” and “platta”. They have drinks called “Trash Can punch”, which by the way is just as good as their margaritas! Just beware, they come in big and bigger.
Yes, that does say Trash Can Punch and Ka’ Mana Wana Lei-a – two drinks that, like I said, remind you of college days.
The staff are trained to be witty and insulting without crossing any lines.
If you ask for a water, be prepared to possibly get a bucket with several straws to share. If you ask for ketchup, you may get 20! There’s just so much fun to be had at Dick’s Last Resort for the whole family!
I’ve tried pretty much every appetizer but love the gator bites and fry’d pickles chips.
As far as dinner, I have had a burger, fish sticks and the crab cakes. All were delicious, but the crab cakes, with the special sauce, were to die for! 
FROM RUG-RATS TO OLD FARTS, FROM HIGH-CLASS TO NO- CLASS, FROM THE TOP OF THE FOOD CHAIN, TO THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL, IT’S FUN FOR ALL AND ALL IN FUN FOR THOSE WHO DARE TO ENTER! SIT BACK AND WATCH, OR JOIN IN THE FUN. DICK’S HAS ALWAYS BEEN KNOWN FOR its OUTRAGEOUS, SURLY, ENERGETIC WAITSTAFF WHO INFLICT HUMOR UPON OUR GUESTS. OUR ATMOSPHERE MAKES EVERYONE FEEL LIKE THEY’RE TEMPORARILY BREAKING ALL THE RULES… AND GETTING AWAY WITH IT. YOU MIGHT END UP WEARING A 2 FEET TALL PAPER HAT COMPLETE WITH A HUMOROUS SLOGAN, OR DOUSED WITH A HANDFUL OF STRAWS. THERE’S NEVER A DULL MOMENT IN THIS 3-RING CIRCUS WHICH IS EXACTLY HOW WE EARNED OUR INFAMOUS REPUTATION. OK, SO Y’ALL COME ON DOWN AND JOIN THE FUN AT 903 PARKWAY LOCATED AT TRAFFIC LIGHT #8 IN FABULOUS DOWNTOWN GATLINBURG!
So whether you’re doing a family dinner, lunch with a friend or a large party, Dick’s Last Resort was not only good, but SO fun!

My family lives in Knoxville so we visit Gatlinburg annually while in town. I love Dick’s. It is such a funny place to visit and so much fun with a large group.

Oh goodness, that looks like SO much fun! I’ve heard a lot about the places you can go and the waiters are really sarcastic to you but I’ve never been to one myself.
I’ve only been to the Gatlinburg area once and didn’t have a chance to go to this restaurant. It looks like so much fun and the food looks great too!

I love a fun meal! I’ve never been to a place like that but would love to go! My parents went to something similar in New Orleans in the 80s and loved it.
I went to one of these in San Antonio, TX! Loved it! They are a BLAST!
